Satan's Superman!...by Sam Gordon
Daniel is my boyhood hero.
I just love the way he tells it like it is. His message is bang up to date – a classic case of tomorrow’s headlines today. No exaggeration – it’s a won’t go away fact. When we look around us and see what’s happening in the world of politics, in Westminster and across Europe and the Middle East, the inspirational insights of the historian-cum-prophet Daniel make breathtaking reading.
How do we know? Well, take a look at Daniel 11:36, where he says: ‘The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place.’
Put simply, the coming Antichrist is pursuing his own carefully crafted policy. Nothing and no one will stand in his way. He is relentless as he sets out to achieve his goal. He has no scruples and less principles as he takes the helm and steers a course through the choppy waters of the Tribulation. He has a mind of his own and through fair means or foul he will do his own thing.
He is the man of lawlessness.
He revels in his verbosity and thrives on his inflated ego. He sees himself as the answer to the mega problems besetting Planet Earth ... a kind of global saviour; he is the epitome of the ME generation as he pushes himself to the fore. The spotlights are focusing on him.
He is the centre of attention, and loves every minute of it. He is consumed with pride and, like a peacock, has an overwhelming desire to strut centre stage. He brags and boasts as he establishes himself as a god to be worshipped and revered. Homage is his due (so he thinks). When he seizes the Temple in Jerusalem he will assume the role and position of Deity. Woe betide those who fail to toe his party line and acknowledge him as God. But, that’s not all ...
He is a compulsive habitual blasphemer. Many have made rash and raucous statements against the Most High in recent times – but these fade into oblivion and pale into comparative insignificance in the light of his epic challenge to the Throne of God. As the Antichrist, he is, essentially, anti-God.
His days are numbered. God has earmarked a day for his downfall. However, until then, he will be prosperous and eminently successful.
We know from verse 37 that he has no time for organised religion and will show a total disregard for the gods that his ancestors worshipped. He will become the new cultic figure of the Last Days. He will have nothing but contempt for the Messiah, Yeshua, as He was the One desired by women under the old economy. He will, rather, present himself as the epitome of atheism.
In verse 38 it is clear that the devil is his hero (and paymaster). He is, after all, the Messiah from hell. He is energised and empowered by the powers of darkness to such an extent that he will have no qualms about establishing Satan worship as the world’s new religion.
A fascinating insight is gleaned in verse 39, where we read: ‘He will attack the mightiest fortresses with the help of a foreign god and will greatly honour those who acknowledge him. He will make them rulers over many people and will distribute the land at a price.’
Yes, he will pour millions of dollars into his war machine so that when the moment comes he will be able to unleash a furious attack against the enemy. His devotion to battle will motivate him to blitz the strongest military installations. His strike capability is such that he will earn the applause of world leaders and statesmen.
Those who back him will be rewarded with wealth and subordinate power. They will feature regularly on his ‘new year honours list’ and will be chosen for inclusion in an elite inner circle of confidantes ... some things never change, I hear you say!
To those who have curried his favour, they will be assigned a portion of the land of Israel and they will be responsible for many duties in a civic capacity. Israel is of vital importance to him because of its geographic location in that it is the hinge of three continents – it will also be the centre of his universal false religion.
As the tongue-in-cheek pundit would say: ‘Watch this space ...!’
