God and Gamrie ...

God and GamrieGardenstown. The chances are you've never heard of the place!

Well, I was in the same boat until about ten years ago when I first visited the small community of 800 souls that nestles on a cliff that plunges down into the icy waters of the Moray Firth. The village owes its name to Alexander Garden who founded the fishing settlement away back in the early 1700s. It is truly idyllic in terms of location, location, location - the lovely horseshoe shaped bay is picture postcard stuff, especially when the sun is going down of a summer evening. Spectacular, is one word that comes readily to mind.

The collection of stunning photographs on this page will give you a flavour of the village ... better still, why not pay it a visit at some point and see it for yourself! Be assured, you'll definitely not regret it!

Rev. Donald Martin
I've had the immense privilege of ministering there over the years, both in Braehead Hall as well as with the local Church of Scotland congregation - the Parish Church is well blessed under the biblical ministry of a godly man from the Hebridean Isle of Lewis, the Rev Donald Martin (see photo).

I was back there again at the end of May for their annual Bible conference ... what a treat that was! The special focus throughout the weekend was on the nation of Israel and how she fits into God's prophetic agenda - the bottom line, she has a future because her God is the God of the Covenant, a faithful God who can be trusted in the good times as well as in the bad times to always deliver the goods!

Prayer Breakfast For me, one of the undoubted highlights was the men's prayer breakfast on the Saturday morning - a good sized group of men gathered for a traditional helping of porridge (made the old-fashioned way), plus the inevitable bacon butties and some other local delicacies in terms of bread! Mouth-watering, yes! But a full tummy didn't diminish the appetite for prayer and spiritual fellowship ... it was thrilling to be among such a fine bunch of believers who have a passion and enthusiasm for the Kingdom of God. You may recognise one or two of the faces in the group photo ... all I can say is this, 'Keep it up, men!'

Perhaps my abiding memory of that God-filled weekend is that the Lord can graciously use boringly ordinary, monochrome people - yes, I'm referring to individuals just like you and me! I reckon, that says more about God's grace than anything else ... no wonder it's amazing!
